With an area of approx. 9,827,000 km² and a population of approx. 328 million, the USA is the third largest country in the world. With its six time zones and 50 different states - from Alaska to Hawaii ? our participants will find that all states have their own traditions and a unique culture. Due to the large land area, there are also extreme temperature and climate differences within the USA. Since the USA is a so-called «immigration country», people from the most diverse cultures live there. Due to the different countries of origin from which the people formed, there were great influences in American everyday life. One of the best examples of this is the many different religious affiliations of Americans.
We work together with a very experienced partner organization in America, which selects suitable schools and host families. At a 4-day preparatory seminar in Los Angeles or New York, the students are well prepared by our partner and supervised during their stay abroad. Our LGA team in Switzerland is also there for you? during normal office hours and in the event of major difficulties also around the clock via the emergency number.
Like something out of a Hollywood movie – nothing is more typical than going to a high school in the USA: yellow school buses, proms, various sports activities, different clubs, «Letterman» jackets and and and. The American school system can vary from state to state. A big difference to Switzerland is that there are no fixed classes. Students can choose different courses depending on their interest and ability level. Another important part of American school life is the after-hours activities offered by high school. Depending on the school, there is a wide range of different sports and working groups (so-called clubs). This means that a large part of the free time is spent on the school premises. This creates a strong feeling of connection to your own school and offers you a great opportunity to integrate yourself quickly and easily into everyday school life and to make new friends!
Family is an important part of everyday life in the United States. With host families carefully selected and vetted by our partner, you will experience the life of a typical American up close. You become a natural part of the family and have your rights. For example, they take you to their favorite restaurant or you get to know all of your relatives and friends at events like Thanksgiving. But you also have your duties. For example, your host family expects you to regularly help with the housework. Put simply, like at home. believe us American host families are far more diverse than the stereotypes portrayed on TV or in the movies. Make your own experiences and get to know American family life!
