With LGA to USA

With an area of approximately 9,827,000 km² and a population of approximately 328 million, the USA is the third largest country in the world. With its six time zones and fifty different states - from Alaska to Hawaii - our participants will find that all states have their own traditions and unique culture. Due to the large land area, extreme differences in temperature and climate also exist within the USA. As the USA is a so-called "immigration country", people from the most diverse cultures live there. Due to the different countries of origin from which the nation was formed, great influences arose in American everyday life. One of the best examples of this are the many different religious affiliations of Americans.

Our partner in the United States

We work together with a very experienced local partner organization who selects suitable schools and host families. During a four-day preparation seminar in Los Angeles or New York, the students are intensively prepared by our partner and are looked after during their stay abroad. Our LGA team in Switzerland is also there for you – during normal office hours and, in an emergency, around the clock.

Schools

Like something out of a Hollywood movie - Nothing is more typical than attending high school in the USA: yellow school buses, prom, various sports activities, different clubs, "letterman" jackets and and and. The American school system can differ from state to state. One big difference to Switzerland is that there are no fixed classes. Students can choose different courses depending on their interests and performance level. Another important part of everyday school life in America are the activities offered by the high school after regular classes. Depending on the school, there is a wide range of different sports and work groups (so-called clubs). These lead to a large part of the free time being spent on the school grounds. This creates a strong sense of connection to your own school and offers you a great opportunity to integrate quickly and easily into everyday school life and make new friends!

Host families

The family is an important part of everyday life in the USA. With host families carefully selected and vetted by our partner, you will experience the life of a typical American first-hand. You become a natural part of the family and have your rights, such as being taken to their favourite restaurant or getting to know all their relatives and friends on occasions like Thanksgiving. But you also have your responsibilities. For example, your host family expects you to help with the housework on a regular basis. Simply put, it's just like at home. Believe us - American host families are far more diverse than the stereotypes shown on TV or in movies. Make your own experience and get to know American family life!
