With LGA to Spain

Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula, together with Portugal and the Principality of Andorra. Spain is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Cantabrian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The Iberian geography has a great influence on the climate, fauna and flora of the country. Therefore, there is a huge diversity and distinct differences in landscapes, weather, animals and plants.

Our partner in Spain

We work with a very experienced partner organization. Your local coordinator is your direct contact and confidant. Contact him/her if you need support or help. We receive regular reports from Spain that inform us about your well-being. During office hours, we are always available for you and your parents - in case of emergency, also via our 24-hour emergency number.

Language

Spanish is the official language throughout the country. However, Catalan, Basque and Galician are also co-official languages in some regions. We advise you to take a Spanish course before your departure if you have no previous experience with the Spanish language. Students with no knowledge of the language are accepted, but in this case we recommend that you take the three-week, chargeable online Spanish course.

Schools

The school system is divided into three main cycles. The first two are compulsory. The last one is for students between the ages of sixteen and eighteen who are planning to continue their education in the future. Most exchange students are placed in the first year of the Bachillerato.

The school year starts beginning of September and ends in June. The year is divided into three trimesters, interrupted by Christmas and Easter vacations.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday, usually from 8 am to 2 pm.

Host families

Spanish host families are dedicated, passionate, talkative and open. Communication is key to a successful experience, so be prepared to express yourself. You will participate in daily activities as a new family member, with rights and responsibilities. Please respect and follow the house rules! You are expected to share your culture and lifestyle with them. If the family has younger children, they may want you to talk to them in English or even in your mother tongue from time to time to help them broaden their horizons. Think of this as a way of collaborating at home.

You will love this lifestyle - big family and friend gatherings, long days outdoors, sports, cultural activities and good food!
