With LGA to Ireland

Ireland is an island state in Western Europe. It comprises about five sixths of the island of the same name as well as a large number of smaller islands off its coast. In the interior of the island there are mainly plains, which are enclosed by hilly areas. Ireland is often called the green island because of its many meadows and pastures. Green is also the four-leaf clover, a symbol for the Irish. Ireland is the home of many famous poets and musicians. The limerick, a funny poem, comes from the south of Ireland. Irish music is known for wild violin music. The old songs are sung in English or Irish.
Very well known is also the local cuisine. Many dishes contain lamb or pork, for example the Irish Stew. Capital and largest city of Ireland is Dublin, located in the eastern part of the country. About one third of the 4.8 million inhabitants live in the metropolitan region.

Our partner in Ireland

We work together with a very experienced local partner organisation. The supervisors of our partner are there for you and are available for advice and support (host family, school etc.) We receive regular reports from Ireland, which inform us about your well-being. During office hours, we are always available for you and your parents - in emergencies we can also be reached on our 24-hour emergency number.

Schools

Schools in Ireland are very tradition-conscious and enjoy an excellent reputation. Many of the schools are girls-only or boys-only schools. Wearing a uniform is compulsory. Normally, exchange students attend the 1st year of the so-called Senior Cycle, also called "transition year". During this time, you will have a mixture of different subjects which will help you to develop academically and personally.

Host families

The host families in Ireland are very hospitable and happy to host an exchange student. You will immediately become part of the family and share the daily routine with them. You will be treated like a member of the family with all rights and obligations. Please respect the house rules of your family, always be open, honest and helpful. In this way you will quickly get to know and love the Irish way of life!
