With LGA to Ireland

Ireland is an island country in Western Europe. It includes about five sixths of the island of the same name as well as a large number of smaller islands that are offshore. In the interior of the island there are mainly plains, which are surrounded by hilly areas on the outside. Ireland is often called the green island because of the many meadows and pastures. The four-leaf clover, a symbol for the Irish, is also green. Ireland is home to many well-known poets and musicians. The Limerick, a fun poem, comes from the south of Ireland. Irish music is known for wild fiddle music. The old songs are sung in English or Irish. The local cuisine is also very well known. Many dishes contain lamb or pork, eg the Irish stew.
The capital and largest city of Ireland is Dublin, located in the eastern part of the country. About a third of the 4.8 million inhabitants live in the metropolitan region.

Schools

The schools in Ireland are very traditional and enjoy an excellent reputation. Many of the schools are all-girls or all-boys schools. Wearing a uniform is compulsory. Normally, the exchange students attend the first year of the so-called senior cycle, also known as the "transition year". You will have a mix of different subjects during this time, which will help you to develop yourself academically and personally.

Host families

Host families in Ireland are very hospitable and happy to host an exchange student. You will immediately become part of the family and share everyday life with them. You will be treated like a family member with all rights and duties. Please respect your family's house rules, always be open, honest and helpful. This way you will quickly get to know and love the Irish way of life!
